In the late eighties a shoe company aimed to assess product ­demand in a specific part of Africa. They dispatched two salesmen to gather information. After a few days, the first salesman conveyed his findings: “I’m sorry, there’s no market fit here; nobody is wearing shoes.” In contrast, the second salesman reported eagerly: “This is a fantastic opportunity! Nobody is wearing shoes!”
